High School Football Takes Center Stage on Thanksgiving

Woburn and Winchester will play for the 108th time on Turkey Day.

  Along with turkey and pumpkin pie, there's another Thanksgiving tradition that has nothing to do with food—high school football. Each year, schools face off against traditional rivals, in an attempt to claim bragging rights for the following year. The Woburn Memorial High School Tanners will take on the Winchester Sachems in the 108th meeting between the two teams Thursday.   What else do you need to know before the Thanksgiving game? 1) The rivalry began in 1891 and Winchester has the lead in the series (52-43-12). 2) Woburn won the 2011 game by a solid 56-0 score. 3) The Woburn Tanners are second place in the Middlesex (Liberty) Division this year with a 3-1 division record (4-5 overall). Winchester is 0-3 in the league and 3-7 overall…

Woburn E2 Trojans Suffer First Home Loss

Team falls to Everett Sunday.

  The following text was provided by Woburn Pop Warner: The Woburn E2 Trojans sponsored by the Woburn Irish American had their first home game of the season against the Everett Eagles and the captains of the game were Liam Nasar, Bobby Lafferty, Symon Sathler and Patrick Malloy. The Woburn E2 Trojans won the coin toss yet again for the third week in a row and it was time for the offense to get things started which consisted of James Breeden, Steven (Biggs) Danizio, Ryan Fisher, Dylan Galex, Dennis Gouveia, Bobby Lafferty, Liam Nasar, Devin O’Connor, Symon Sathler, Gary Silva and the quarterback for the game Patrick Malloy. Lexington/Bedford Hands E1 Team Loss Sunday

  The following text was provided by Woburn Pop Warner: The Woburn-E1 team sponsored by the loyal order of moose and the cheer team sponsored by Roche Brothers, suffered a 27-6 loss to Lexington and Bedford.                                                                                                                                                                The game started out good, but did not stay that way. We  received and stated on our 35 yard line. Our first play was a run to the right for 2 yards by #21 Pedro  Germano .   The following text was provided by Woburn Pop Warner: This past week the Sgt. Paul Connolly Trojan Woburn B Team defeated Lexington at home with a shut out win.  From the start of the game Lexington’s offensive line was no match for Woburn’s Defensive line of Kyle Chorlton, Marlon McCoy, Jesus Pizarro, Ahmed Hmina, John Golles and Luther Thiogene. The line put pressure on Lexington to turn over on the 4th down.  Woburn’s Offensive line of Jacob Walthall, Tommy Nye, Nelson Claude, Andrew Nicholas, Ryan Getherall, Joseph O’Brien, David Lennon, Ryan Chillemi, Andrre Eller, Charles O’Connor and Nic Pascuccio plowed through Lexington’s defense to help Colin Butcher fly down the field with a whopping 53-yard run for the 1st T.D. of the game.  …

  The following text was submitted by Woburn Pop Warner: The Woburn Loyal Order of Moose D1 team, fresh off a loss to Waltham, bounced back in a big way Sunday with an impressive win over the Lexington Raiders, 30-0. The game took place at Woburn Memorial High School. Woburn’s defense started the day on the field and must have heard the Gulde Insurance Agency cheerleading squad, “Defense get that ball!”, for they forced Lexington to turn over the ball after only six plays. Pop Warner B Team Beats Waltham Sunday

Defense and offense come up big while blanking Waltham.

  The following text was provided by Woburn Pop Warner Football: This past week the Sgt. Paul Connolly Trojan Woburn B Team defeated Waltham.  Waltham was no match for both Defensive and Offensive lines.  In the first half Waltham took over on their own 21-yard line yet was no match against Woburn’s 1st defensive line of Ryan Chillemi, Tommy Nye, Tyler Hayden, David Lennon, Luther Thiogene, and Charles O’Connor, holding Waltham to a 3 and out 1st series.  Colin Butcher and Kyle Chorlton returning to the Waltham 28-yard line where Woburn’s 1st offense of Jake Bridge, Matthew Pollard, Andrew Nicholas, Nick Romeo, and Kyle Chute took over.   The following text was provided by Woburn Pop Warner Football: Woburn   E1  football  sponsored by the Woburn Loyal Order of Moose and E1 cheering sponsored by Roche Bros lost to Waltham 19-0.  The  game did not start well for us, we kicked off and Waltham ran it into the end zone for their first touchdown.  On our first offensive play we ran right and were stopped for a loss.  Our second play we fumbled and Waltham recovered. Woburn's  first defensive was good forcing Waltham to turn the ball over on downs in four plays.   The following text was provided by Woburn Pop Warner Football: Sunday’s game resulted in a disappointing loss for the Woburn Loyal Order of Moose D1 team, who fell short to the Waltham Devil Dogs, 6-12. The game was played at Waltham High School. Woburn’s offensive struggles started with a lost fumble on their first drive. Waltham would score twice in the first quarter, but the Trojans never gave up, working hard until the end of the game.   The following was provided by Woburn Pop Warner Football: The Woburn E2 Trojans sponsored by the Woburn Irish American traveled to Waltham for their second game of the season and boy it was another great day for a game. The sun was shining and the boys were ready to play some football. The captains of the game today were Patrick Malloy, Bobby Lafferty, Liam Nasar and Symon Sathler. Woburn D1 Pop Warner Tackles Watertown

Team played first game of season the road.

  The following text was provided by Woburn Pop Warner: The Woburn Loyal Order of Moose D1 team kicked off the 2012 season with an impressive 30-6 victory against the Watertown Bulldogs. The game took place Sunday morning at Belmont Hill School. Woburn set the tone of the game early with special teams’ help from John Lafferty, who recovered his first of two kickoff fumbles. The first offensive play of the game went to running back John Zakrewski, who took the ball 13 yards. Quarterback Ryan Qualey then handed off to Ryan Ludwig, who ran the ball 23 yards into the endzone. Kris Chiary added two more points with a kick through the uprights, making the score 8-0.
