MBTA, Traffic Affected by Salem Street Work

Re-paving of busy road Wednesday and Thursday.

  Salem Street is undergoing a makeover. But in order to get pretty, it will get a little ugly first. Woburn Police advised motorists Tuesday that traffic, including MBTA buses and stops, will be impacted Wednesday and Thursday. Work crews will continue re-paving Salem Street between Main and Beach streets Wednesday, before moving onto the area between Beach and Wood streets Thursday. Motorists should seek alternate routes during the construction as there will be detours and delays. Work begins at 7 a.m. On Thursday, MBTA bus riders who use Bow and Salem street stops will need to go to corner of Wood and Salem streets to be picked up. I think Center st in Woburn needs all new sidewalks and new pavement the street is is brutal condition patches everywhere and no drains at all causing floods all the time .Also the city should realize we are in the center even tho never get any attention here   more ›

UPDATE: Traffic Moving on North Main Street

Truck takes down wires, causing traffic problems Tuesday afternoon.

  Updated, 3:05 p.m. — Woburn Police reports an NSTAR crew is on scene at 1030 Main St. to repair the low-hanging live wires. Traffic has been opened for both directions in Woburn and Wilmington. Tuesday, 2:50 p.m. — A truck driving on Main Street in North Woburn, shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, took down several wires, causing a traffic nightmare. According to Woburn Police, traffic was halted on Main Street, near Kearsage, and had to be stopped in both directions. Wilmington Police are also stopping traffic at the town line. WPD called NSTAR to respond to the scene, but has been waiting for over a half-hour. At 2:45 p.m., the electric company reported a crew was coming from Somerville and should be there by 3 p.m. Police said the situation…

UPDATE: Route 93N Closed Sunday Night Due to Crash

Mass State Police reported "several" injured.

Four people were taken to the hospital and one driver was detained on suspicion of drunk driving following a four-car accident on Route 93 Sunday night. The accident was initially reported as being in Woburn, but State Police later said the accident occured in Stoneham. The accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m., police said. According to the MSP, "preliminary reports indicate a wrong-way operator is the cause of the crash and several persons have been injured." The accident reportedly occurred at the Montvale Avenue exit. Those injured were taken to Winchester Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The road was closed for approximately one half-hour to clear the highway of cars and debris, according toh the statement. State Police …

UPDATE: Man in Custody, Streets Reopening

Police action shut down roads in the area for several hours Wednesday.

Update, 2:45 p.m.—Woburn Police have one man in custody, after a day-long negotiation with a man threatening to jump off the roof of 576 Main St. The man is being brought to Woburn Police for booking. He was on the roof of the apartment building from about 8 o'clock this morning until 2:40 p.m. Wednesday. The negotiation shut down Main Street completely from Charles Street to Chestnut Street, and at times, further out. At one point during the standoff, only the sound of the fan keeping the "pillow" inflated in the parking lot could be heard. Traffic Alert: Major Roads Under Construction This Week

Five roads to be ground and paved over next seven to 10 business days, says DPW.

Five major roads in Woburn will be under construction next week, starting Monday, said Department of Public Works Director Jay Duran Friday. According to Duran, the construction will take seven to 10 business days and will begin at approximately 6:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31. Roads under construction are: The Department of Public Works and Woburn Police advise drivers to seek alternate routes.

Traffic Alert: Route 38 Closed Sunday

Main Street will be closed in both directions Sunday afternoon for parade.

Route 38 from the Winchester line to the Route 128 rotary will be closed in both directions Sunday afternoon from noon to 4 p.m. The road closure is due to the annual Halloween parade.

Cambridge Road Work to Affect Weekday Traffic

A new gas line is being installed week days, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If you take Cambridge Road daily, you may want to find an alternate route or give yourself a few extra minutes in the morning. The Devereaux Corporation will be installing a new gas line on the busy West Side road from Gately Drive to Bedford Road this week. The work will be done between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and is expected to take several weeks. Woburn Police advises drivers to seek alternate routes if possible, or expect delays in the area.

Road Closures Tuesday

Seek alternate routes in the Montvale Avenue area, is possible.

The Department of Public Works will continue paving on Nashua and Green streets and Montvale Ave. (from Green Street to the Montvale railroad bridge) today at 7 a.m.  Officials expect the streets to be closed intermittently during paving, which should be done by Tuesday at 6 p.m. According to Woburn Police, work plans are being designed around rush hour and school openings and dismissal. Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes, is possible.

Traffic Alert: Three Major Roads Under Construction This Week

Seek alternate routes if possible.

Beginning this morning, the Department of Public Works will be grinding  Montvale Avenue, Green Street and Willow Street in preparation for paving. Work done near the Goodyear School is slated to be complete before school opens on Thursday. Work being done near the Joyce Middle School is being planned to allow access to the school from all directions.  Woburn Police said Friday that motorists should expect delays in their commute and use alternate routes.
