What's going on with the Irish pub?
The saga of Waxy O'Connor's continues in Woburn this month. The traditional Irish pub has been making promises to the city about opening—first it was November of 2012, then January 2013. But as of Jan. 7, it has still not opened at the site of the old Spuds restaurant off of Montvale Avenue. The city's Licensing Commission issued an ultimatum last November—open by January or you lose your liquor license. Woburn Patch reached Paul Medeiros of the Licensing Commission last Friday. He had this to say about the restaurant and it's progress: "The recent flurry of activities at the property are promising and we remain hopeful that Waxy's will meet the deadline and be a welcomed addition to the very vibrant Woburn restaurant scene." According …

You ask, Patch answers. When can we expect longer days?
Winter can be tough on the emotions. The cold weather can be difficult to deal with, snow can be a pain (though also fun) but what really seems to get people down is the short days. There is something about the sun going down before most people get out of work that is depressing. You asked us and we're ready to answer: When can we expect longer days? The days will begin to get longer after the Winter Solstice, which is the shortest day of the year. According to timeanddate.com, the December solstice occurs when the sun reaches its most southerly declination of -23.5 degrees is normally on Dec. 21, but the actual shortest day can be between Dec. 20 and 23 depending on the year. According to sunrisesunset.com, the shortest day of the year…
You Asked and Patch Answers... The Irish pub had promised to be open before the holiday in Woburn. Will it?
When Spuds closed in February of 2011, it left a restaurant spot vacant off of Montvale Avenue. And it's still vacant... Despite promises of having a new eatery opened by Thanksgiving. Now the city's License Commission has given prospective tenant Waxy O'Connor's an ultimatum—open by January or you lose your liquor license. The Irish pub first made moves to come into the city in the closed Spuds building in March of this year. But the pub's progress is moving along slowly. "Building Commissioner Thomas Quinn has been on top of this project from the get go," said Paul Medeiros of the License Commission. "[He] was dissatisfied with the effort and had documentation that there was very little progress made towards getting the project …
