The Hunger Games star was in town on Tuesday to shoot a new David O. Russell film.

You may know her from The Hunger Games or her famous trip at the 2013 Oscars while accepting Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook. But did you see her in Woburn? Jennifer Lawrence was in the city last Tuesday for a film shoot for an upcoming David O. Russell. The majority of the filming took place at the Clapp School. The yet-to-be-named movie on the Abscam Scandal stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, and Louis C.K. While Woburn Patch was at the school that morning, we didn't spot any of the stars. Fortunately local photographer Sean Gold was able to snap these pictures above of Lawrence. In one we see her in the backseat of a car. She's also wearing a neck brace in the picture. The NY Daily News reports …

Woburn police cleared the sidewalks in front of the school to keep bystanders from being in any shots. As of this morning we could mostly just see crews setting up equipment. There were also some vintage vehicles to help create the 1970s atmosphere of the movie. The filming will…

Letter: 'Mayor Hollywood' A Letter on the Hollywood Filming in Woburn This Week

A letter from a resident who lives near Clapp School on the scheduled filming.

The following is a letter to the editor: I am a resident of Ward 1 and an abutter to the Clapp School. I found out from someone who saw the mayor’s Facebook page that we are going to have 13 hours of filming of a big Hollywood movie at the school next Tuesday starting at 6:00 AM. The mayor was so excited and saying how wonderful this is for the city of Woburn. He forgets that this neighborhood is part of the city and he never even discussed it with us. We had to find out on Facebook! I and the other neighbors of Hudson Street who are right next door did not get a notice and I didn’t know it was going to happen. The mayor’s office didn’t even inform my alderman and she found out when she got a notice delivered yesterday. The aldermen-at-…

Earnhardt, Thank you for keeping me focused. I sincerely appreciate it. I thiink I got caught up in the mud slinging and instead of ignoring it, I fell into it! Appreciate it. To Jim, the neighbors (my friends) on Hudson Street got notice four days before it happened on Thursday. It was on Facebook and in the paper before the neighbors knew. If there was something going on in your neighborhood …   more ›

Looks like Woburn will once again be on the silver screen. Mayor Scott Galvin posted to his Facebook page last night that there will be filming for a new movie at the Clapp School next week. "Horn Pond or Hollywood East?," Galvin wrote. "Film crews will be setting up to shoot some scenes at the Clapp School site next Tuesday, April 9, for a new David O. Russell movie about the Abscam scandal, set in the 70s." According to Galvin, the yet-to-be-named movie stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Admans, and Louis C.K. Film executives and crews have been working with Mayor Scott Galvin, Superintendent Mark Donovan, Police Chief Robert Ferullo, Fire Chief Paul Tortolano and other key city and school department officials …

Clapp School Drop-Off Lane to Go, Mayor Emphasizes

Mayor Scott Galvin says city supports a playing field in the area, and Clapp School land will be restored to pre-portable condition for neighborhood.

Yes, the drop-off lane off Hudson Street at the Clapp School will be removed. And it will be up to Mayor Scott Galvin and the Recreation Commission, Galvin said Thursday, to determine what goes on Flemming Field, where portable classrooms connected to the Clapp School once sat. Both Galvin and Recreation Department Director Rory Lindstrom told Woburn Patch they support a field where kids could play ball. Some south end residents have two concerns about that area:  the drop-off lane is still there and, on the side of the site farthest from Hudson Street, there is not enough room now, they say, for a ball field. Mayor Scott Galvin told Woburn Patch Thursday that the school drop-off lane “is coming out.” “It doesn’t serve the city [anymore…

PHOTOS: Clapp School Site Still Contentious

The modular classrooms are gone, but some say the ballfield should return. Pick-up and drop-off lane should be removed and playground equipment moved, residents say.

Sometimes what you don’t see is an important part of a picture. So what don’t you see behind the Clapp School? Gone are the modular or portable classrooms. Removed two weeks ago, they were brought in to house students from the Goodyear School while the new Goodyear was built. The ground under the former portables farthest from the Clapp School has been loamed and was seeded Tuesday. More loam is needed, according to Wickson Construction employee Jason Stafford, for a strip of land between the newly-loamed area and the playground. Land adjacent to the school and the paved area will also be paved, Stafford said. The work could be done this week, he said, depending on the weather. But there’s something else you don’t see behind the Clapp …

They are going back on their words not only to us the residents of Woburn but also to the Department of Enviromental Protection. The drop off road was suppose to come out in 2 years due to the water shed. It had nothing to do with the school issues. But you are right Grecian Formula enough is enough. We are in debt for at least 120 million dollars for building 4 huge elementary schools and 1 …   more ›

Clapp School Takes Its 'Skirt' Off

City prepares modular classrooms for removal.

Outside, the skirting is down around the perimeter of the nine modular units at the Clapp School. Inside, divider walls have been built where portables met in the middle of the classrooms.  Tom Costello and Jim Hilton of Wickson Construction Co. in New Hampshire worked outside last week to put up plastic fencing around the perimeter of the portables to keep children out from under them. If the forecast holds and it continues to rain, they’ll work inside, Hilton told Woburn Patch. Costello and Hilton have built and installed divider walls between each of the now-connected portable units. The walls are used to anchor plastic wrap on what otherwise would be an open side of the rectangular structures when they are removed individually from the…

City Set to Start Removing Clapp School Portable Classrooms

Total project could take up to four weeks, according to city building inspector.

The modular, or so-called portable, classrooms at the Clapp Elementary School are a step closer to gone. Removing them isn’t as simple as hauling away the “portable” part of the structures, city Building Inspector Thomas Quinn told Woburn Patch yesterday afternoon.  School Supt. Mark Donovan told the School Committee last week that the process would begin yesterday.  A Clapp School neighbor was critical yesterday morning of what he saw as inaction on the project. A permit must be issued to demolish the connection between the school and the portable classrooms, Quinn explained, as well as the foundations for the modular classrooms. That application is on his desk, Quinn said. Before he can approve it, NStar must confirm by letter that the …
