VIDEO: Girls' Hockey Unstoppable Against Winchester

Woburn's forceful offense takes 9-1 win.

The Woburn High School girls’ hockey team demolished Winchester High School, 9-1, Saturday night at the O’Brien Ice Rink in Woburn. “I thought the kids played all right,” said WMHS coach Bob MacCurtain. “I mean the first period I didn’t think we were great. The score was 4-0, but I thought it was a lot of individual stuff and then we got better as the game went on.” The Tanners were up 4-0 with nearly one minute remaining in the first. Sophomore Kayla Smith netted Woburn’s first goal with a straight shot at 11:12, with assists from senior captain Colleen Martell and sophomore Cassandra Connolly. Woburn Boys' Hockey Bests Winchester in Aggressive Meeting

Tanners win 2-0 over Sachems.

The Woburn High School boys’ hockey team beat Winchester High School, 2-0, in an evenly aggressive match Saturday night at a packed and rowdy O’Brien Ice Rink in Woburn. “I thought it was a great game,” said Woburn coach Jim Duran. “I thought both teams played really well. Just came down to we got two power play goals and they didn’t. “I think it was a really even game, five on five and we were lucky enough to get two power play goals,” he added.  After a scoreless first period, the game was intensifying at the start of the second. “First period was kind of probably a wash for both teams because it seemed like there was no puck out there,” Duran said. “There was a lot of emotion, with them getting their new jerseys and with our team with …
