Woburn bounced back from an early Wildcat push and went on to a 10-6 victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Ken Blaszka will be on the sidelines for the Woburn High School boys lacrosse team. But for the last week of the season, he knows there’s not much coaching he has left to do. “At this point we aren’t putting anything new in the game plan. It’s take it to the cooker, score, and stop them,” said Blaszka, whose team needs two victories in its final four regular season contests to earn a playoff berth. “There’s no coaching at this point. It’s just who wants it. Hopefully we want it and we’ll make the tournament.” Woburn improved its playoff chances on Thursday when it took a lead into halftime and dominated the time of possession in the final two periods for a 10-6 victory. It was just Wilmington’s third loss of the season, while the victory …

The Woburn High School boys lacrosse team hung tight in the first half, but fell to a difficult foe, 14-5, on Tuesday.
Though Woburn hung with Reading in the first half, it was the Rockets who took over in the closing two quarters of boys lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon. The Tanners trailed just 5-3 at the intermission, but the Rockets took over in the final minutes and went on to a 14-5 win. While Reading improved to 10-2 on the year, the setback dropped Woburn to 4-6 on the campaign.

Woburn tied the game, lost the lead and tied the game again within the final two minutes of the game before losing in the 10th round of the shootout to St. Mary's on Sunday.
Sunday's Division 1 girls hockey semifinal was a 10-round slugfest. So was the shootout that eventually ended the Woburn High School season. Though the top-seeded Lady Tanners twice tied the game during a wild final minute-plus of regulation, St. Mary's of Lynn eventually came out on top of a 10-round shootout to advance with a 4-3 win. Trailing 2-1, standout forward Kayla Smith evened things up with a goal with 1:31 left to play. But St. Mary's recaptured the lead just 18 seconds later, seemingly sealing a berth in the state final. Erica Lissner, however, had other ideas as she extended the Woburn season thanks to the tying tally with 33.5 seconds to go. After a scoreless overtime, the teams went to a shootout. Regulation wasn't enough …

The Lady Tanners entered the final period versus Billerica tied on Tuesday, but used a pair of late goals to advance into the Division 1 semifinal round.
Woburn High School junior Emily Lissner netted three goals on Tuesday night, and the top-seeded Lady Tanners needed every one of them to escape upstart Billerica in the Division 1 girls quarterfinals. The locals earned the victory despite falling behind 1-0 early on and entering the third period tied at 1-1. Lissner's second goal gave Woburn a 2-1 edge with 10 minutes to play, and she added her final tally with just over eight minutes to go. Though Billerica scored with less than one minute remaining, it was too late and the Tanners survived. As a result, Woburn will take on St. Mary's of Lynn on Sunday at Chelmsford Forum with a berth in the state championship game at TD Garden on the line. Are you a big fan of the Tanners? You'll also …

The Lady Tanners skate in the Division 1 quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Stoneham Arena.
The quest to bring a state championship banner home to Woburn High School during the winter season comes down to one team. Top-seeded, and widely considered the favorite to win it all, Woburn girls hockey is the final Tanner team remaining in the postseason after the boys hockey team fell to Burlington, 3-2, on Sunday. The girls team opened with a first round bye before taking care of business with a 4-2 win over No. 17 Andover in the first round. Next up is a date with Billerica on Tuesday at 8 p.m. If the Tanners can handle the bracket's No. 9 seed, they will advance to play in the Division 1 semifinal round against either St. Mary's of Lynn or Austin Prep. Looking ahead in the bracket, the winner of that game will advance to play for …

Woburn takes on Middlesex rival Burlington in the North Division 1 opening round.
The Woburn High School boys hockey team has proven itself to be among the best teams in Division 1. Starting Sunday, they'll have the chance to prove just how good they are. Following a 10-6-4 regular season, the Tanners snagged the No. 4 seed when the North Division 1 brackets were released earlier this week. As a result, the team earned a quarterfinal date with Middlesex League rival and defending state champion Burlington on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. The game is scheduled to take place on the ice of Chelmsford Forum. Whichever team advances past Sunday's game faces another stern task. The winner will play either No. 1 Chelmsford or No. 9 Melrose in the semifinal round. Woburn skated closely with Burlington during the regular season. On …

Led by its 16th year head coach, Woburn is postseason bound again this year.
The following questions were answered by Woburn High School boys hockey coach Jim Duran, who took over as head coach in 1997. The Tanners open their postseason quest in the first round of the North Division 1 playoffs on Sunday. Woburn, the No. 4 seed, battles No. 5 seed and defending state champion Burlington beginning at 4:30 p.m. How much does it help to have consistency with you having been with the program for 16 years? I think it helps. We have always been blessed with good players, good goaltending. I don’t think the whole coach thing makes a difference. I think discipline does and we have good kids, so that’s a recipe for a good team. Our kids have been great this year. We exceeded our expectations and it all comes down to …
