Joe Galliani has been making his living full time as a writer since 1988 when he began working with Mattel Toys, then in Hawthorne, as his client.  He spent the next decade writing Toy Fair scripts for Barbie, Disney, Nickelodeon, Polly Pocket and many other characters; award shows, product videos, live tributes and special events; and executive speeches and presentations.  Before he left Joe co-created the Street Sharks toy line and watched its characters become a successful worldwide animated series, Halloween costumes, snack food items, hand puppets and dozens of other licensed products.

Over the last 23 years Joe has written and creative directed projects for Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox, Honda, Sony, Toyota, Tangle Toys, Washington Mutual, Hewlett Packard, Dow Chemical, Lexus and EcoMedia-CBS for whom he has written the CBS Green Report in 2010 and 2011.

In 1997 Joe co-founded The Parks Company to preserve, protect and promote America’s National Parks. 13 years later The Parks Company is still going strong.

Joe has been writing commentary and opinion since 1980 when he began writing and recording regular radio commentaries for NPR affiliate, KLON-FM 88 in Long Beach.

When Joe turned 50 in September of 2007 his focus and attention turned full time to the environment and what he could contribute to improving things.  Joe began writing his Creative Greenius blog the month after that birthday and has been writing about South Bay, California and national environmental issues for the past four years.

Wanting to do more than just write about green issues, Joe took solar installation classes in 2009 and then started volunteering with GRID Alternatives installing free solar on low income and Habitat for Humanity houses.  He began taking workshops and attending seminars to learn the ins and out of California’s AB 811 energy loan program and other renewable energy laws and shared that knowledge with local South Bay and Southern California governments in a series of presentations.

Joe also volunteers with the South Bay Environmental Services Center and the South Bay Cities Council of Governments Green Task Force.  He has been the pro bono co-editor of the Southern California Horticultural newsletter since November 2005 and is also a long term volunteer with the South Coast Botanic Gardens.

From December 2009 to August 2010 Joe worked as a founding member of the Hermosa Beach Carbon Neutral City Committee helping to introduce the concept to then Mayor, Michael DiVirgilio, and to the community and helping to build support for a citywide commitment to becoming carbon neutral.

Joe became one of the founding members of the South Bay Bicycle Coalition in November of 2009 and has been on their board of directors since the organization was formalized in 2010, working on community outreach and communications.  Joe helped the group win a $240,000 grant from the County of Los Angeles in 2010 and was instrumental in the coalition’s successful passage of the seven city South Bay Bicycle Master Plan in November of 2011.

In 2011 Joe became a member of the Vitality City Bike/Walk committee and helped the organization get its Livability Plan passed in the target cities of Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach.

In September of 2011 Joe was honored with the South Bay Business Environmental Coalition’s 2011 SEED Education and Outreach Award.
