One of the town's best kept secrets... there's a computer repair store that's been open since 2009, right across from wickford mini mart on 1A, in the plaza with Kingston pizza. It's called Wickford Computer

North Kingstown is in my blood, too. I was the news director at WKFD radio in Wickford (1972-75) where we covered the town like a blanket, though it was a little 500-watt daytime station. I now am Tallahassee bureau chief for the Tampa Bay (formerly St. Petersburg) Times.

Presidents' Day reminds me..... A local man became so important to the foundation of our country that if George Washington had been killed during the Revolutionary War, HE most likely, would have been our first president.
He was Washington's best friend and closest confidant. The Mel Gibson Movie "The Patriot" was largely modelled after his bravery. He sacraficed EVERYTHING to the war for independence, turning his home in Coventry into a hospital, donating his personal wealth to those who he promised repayment for their gifts to the Army, and never left our struggle to return home-- even for a day until after the battle of Yorktown (which was organized in Newport).
Wow, how things were changed by the committment and integrity of a great patriot and local Rhode Islander!!
If anyone deserves special recognition locally and nationally, it's MAJOR GENERAL NATHANAEL GREENE.

Hello NK Patch! I wanted to mention that doing my daily drive through Wickford today, I noticed lights on in a new shop. I thought it was a new antiques or consignmnet shop.....so pulled over to take a peek in. Once thorugh the doors I was greeted by the owner of WIckford's newest business. It is NOT a shop...but a Tea Room decorated with antiques (which to be totally accurate...some are for sale!) The owner was a complete pleasure...and the shop is straight out of the scene shop from The Gilmore Girls!!!....absolutley charming. I'll be dropping in with my gal pals on a regular basis!! The Patch should go and check it out and do a wrote up. The owner mentioned all of the great event ideas she has...and told me about all of the space use options...for events/parties/game night/book clubs, etc. To add even more ....she grows all of her own tea herds organically on her farm off of Mail Rd in Exeter!!!..another fab addition to our village!!!

Samantha, you need to run an article on the Davisville School situation. If the distict decides to sit on that property, like they did with Wickford Elementary for five years, that is a total waste of taxpayer money. Pressure needs to be applied to this Supertendent and the SC needs to turn this over to the town for disposal. $50K to $75K to keep a closed building going is nuts, regardless of who is renting the building out.....those rents will never cover costs.

Samantha,

I am a North Kingstown resident who recently started a blog The Healthy Happy Home. http://thehealthyhappyhome.wordpress.com
Do you have an area on your site to feature North Kingstown bloggers?

I also relocated my business here to North Kingstown almost a year ago and would be happy to talk with you about it.

Sincerely,
Valerie Cookson-Botto

Hey, Samantha - Congratulations! The site looks great. I'm the local editor in Montville, Conn., set to launch in November. I love the New to the Neighborhood feature and might steal the idea from you... it would be fun to pair with a "Been Here Forever" column... Good job@
