Impressive First Win for the C Team

The Hanson Electric C Team, led by quarterbacks Jonathan Avery and Logan Wilson, chalked up their first win with a 14-0 shutout against the Lexington Raiders. The game took place on Sunday at Lexington High School.

Woburn started the game off strong with a 70-yard kickoff return by Ryan Ludwig. Jonathan Avery then carried the ball across the goal line for the extra point.

Both defenses continued to battle back and forth until halftime. Notable first half plays by Woburn included an interception by John Lafferty, a fumble recovery by David Langlois, and a touchdown-saving tackle by Issac Gouveia.

To start the third quarter, the Woburn defense, including Jared Zolubos, Nicholas Newman, John Zakrewksi, Alec Cruz, Jonathan Avery, Jared Riordan, John Lafferty, Kyle Almeida, John Kyle, Ryan Ludwig, Issac Gouveia, Tyrese Jones, David Langlois, and Terrell Jones, continued their stellar play and quickly got the ball back to the offense at midfield with a fourth down stop by Tyrese Jones.

With the help of great blocking by Derek Fox, Michael Mercer, Jared Riordan, Jayson Blouin, George Paez, Nicholas Coviello, and Jack Aylward, Woburn was able to move the ball to Lexington's 41-yard line. Faced with 3rd and 4 at the 30-yard line, Terrell Jones kept the drive alive with a run past the first down marker.

Strong blocking up front by John Kyle, James Taft, Nicholas Coviello, Ryan Dever, Kyle Almeida, Alec Cruz, and David Langlois, allowed Ryan Ludwig to take the ball across the goal line for another six points. Avery ran for the extra point for the second time in the game.

Woburn's defense continued to impress by forcing turnovers and making key tackles when it counted. John Zakrewski made a huge tackle in the backfield which forced a 4th and 20 for Lexington. On the next play, John Lafferty caught his second interception of the game, stopping the Raiders from converting a first down.

On Lexington's next offensive possession, the Trojan defense continued to play hard and make huge plays. Twins Tyrese and Terrell Jones made the tackles on second and third downs. On the next play, Lexington broke free from the pack and appeared to be heading toward the endzone, but Woburn's Ludwig chased and made the tackle at the 14-yard line. Great defensive play by Woburn and penalties pushed the Raiders backwards to the 29-yard line. Woburn's Kyle Almeida put the exclamation point on the game with an interception to secure the win.
